Project Brief

Outcome

The outcomes of the project included successfully aligning all components’ designs with Australian standards and codes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. CDMS’s expertise and support enabled Stellar Energy to meet Australian compliance standards for the Pluto Train 2 project, enhancing safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. The project’s successful completion laid the foundation for the seamless integration and operation of the facility, demonstrating CDMS’s commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet regulatory standards and client expectations.

Background

CDMS was tasked with providing engineering support for ensuring Australian compliance in the Pluto Train 2 project, commissioned by Woodside Burrup Pty Ltd. The project involved the design and manufacture of various components, including chiller modules, pumps, air-cooled heat exchangers, electrical equipment, control panels, structural elements, piping, wiring, and equipment specifications. Stellar Energy, the manufacturer, sought assistance from CDMS to ensure that all designs met Australian standards and codes, essential for regulatory approval and operational safety.

Project Objectives

The primary objective of the project was to ensure that all components designed and manufactured for the Pluto Train 2 project met Australian standards and codes. This involved reviewing and modifying design specifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and facilitating the registration of equipment in Western Australia where applicable. By achieving these objectives, the project aimed to enhance safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in the construction and operation of the Pluto Train 2 facility, ultimately contributing to its successful implementation and performance.

Challenges

One of the primary challenges encountered was aligning existing designs and specifications with Australian standards and codes, as the project components were initially designed and manufactured in the US. This required meticulous review and modification of drawings to meet Australian compliance requirements. Additionally, coordinating with multiple stakeholders involved in the project, including manufacturers, designers, and regulatory authorities, posed logistical and coordination challenges.

Our Approach

CDMS adopted a comprehensive approach to address the challenges posed by the project. Our team conducted thorough reviews of each component’s design specifications, identifying areas that needed modification to comply with Australian standards. We collaborated closely with Stellar Energy to ensure a clear understanding of Australian requirements and regulations, facilitating seamless integration of compliance measures into the project design. CDMS provided technical expertise and guidance throughout the process, ensuring that all aspects of the project met the necessary compliance standards.
