91 Wells & 160 Wells Project

CDMS has been contracted by Forge Group to assess the impact of ladder climbing systems (LCS) on existing crane monorail beams in dry well pumping station buildings. The project aims to calculate the structural impact of LCS installations on the beams, ensuring they can support the additional weight and forces exerted by the systems. The main challenges include accurately assessing the structural impact, coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and conducting the assessment without disrupting operations. The approach involves detailed calculations and structural analysis, focusing on safety, accuracy, and adherence to industry standards.

Project Brief

Outcome

The project outcomes include a comprehensive analysis of the structural integrity of the crane monorail beams in light of the LCS installations. This will provide Forge Group with insights into the load-bearing capacity of the beams and any potential risks associated with the LCS systems. Additionally, the project may result in recommendations for reinforcing or modifying the crane beams to ensure their continued safe operation.

Background

CDMS has been contracted by Forge Group to assess the impact of newly installed ladder climbing systems (LCS) on existing crane monorail beams. These beams are situated within dry well pumping station buildings. The LCS systems comprise straight or cranked beams, affixed to brickwork at one end and welded to the top of the monorail beam at the other end. The crane beams are supported at two points: one end is embedded into the brickwork, while the other end is supported under doorways using four bolts. In certain instances, both supports are cast directly into the brickwork.

Project Objectives

The primary objective is to calculate the structural impact of the LCS installations on the existing crane monorail beams. This involves assessing the load-bearing capacity of the monorail beams and ensuring they can support the additional weight and forces exerted by the LCS systems. The goal is to determine whether the installation of LCS systems compromises the integrity and safety of the crane beams.

Challenges

Key challenges include accurately assessing the structural impact of the LCS installations on the crane monorail beams, considering factors such as additional weight, forces, and potential stress concentrations. Coordinating with stakeholders and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards are also significant challenges. Additionally, conducting the assessment with out disrupting ongoing operations within the pumping station buildings poses logistical challenges.

Our Approach

Our approach involves conducting detailed calculations and structural analysis to evaluate the impact of LCS installations on the crane monorail beams. This includes assessing load distributions, stress concentrations, and potential failure modes. We will collaborate closely with Forge Group to understand project requirements and address any concerns or constraints. Our approach prioritizes safety, accuracy, and adherence to industry standards to ensure the successful completion of the project.
